Throughout all popular styles of music, chords are heavily used. From power chords to Major chords, 7th chords to Add 9s, and so many more, chords are extremely important to learn if you want to know music.

Chords can help set the tone for the entire song. Simply changing certain Major chords to minor chords can make the feel of the song go from happy to sad. The correct chord could add new emotional depth to what you are playing.
So, what is a chord?
A chord is when at least two different notes are played at the same time. Depending on which two notes are played together, you can have a happy sound, sad sound, evil, weird, etc.
When you play three notes, four notes, or even more together, then you have a wide variety of different moods to work with when writing music.
Now, some people will say a chord needs at least three notes. I say, f**k that!

Good ol' Wikipedia talks about how "theorists are divided on whether a power chord can be considered a chord in the traditional sense". Why? Because traditionally, chords need at least 3 notes.

I believe that things have changed over the years. Power chords are TWO NOTE chords, and are the most popular chords used in metal.

Some will argue that two note chords are merely dyads. I say that's just a confusing way of saying a TWO NOTE CHORD!!! And, I like keeping things simple.

Chords are built by combining different intervals. Various interval combinations will create a vast amount of different chord sounds and textures. Intervals are distances from one note to another.

Eventually, there WILL be an in depth lesson on what intervals are and how to find. No release date yet though!
